Chair - Wessex Astronomical Society
For all the probing and exploring of our local planetary neighbourhood over the last 100 years there are still many mysteries! From weird hollows on Mercury to the Mars Dichotomy, not forgetting the small but slightly important fact that the Sun’s core isn’t hot enough to undergo nuclear fusion, Kate will lead us through a light-hearted talk on some of the lesser-known facts about our Solar System.
Kate Earl is a geologist-turned-science educator, who runs a small Bournemouth-based business called SkyHigh Astronomy. She also works for The Science Dome, presenting planetarium shows in schools. She has a passion for astronomy, and endeavours to make the night sky more accessible to the public. She is the current chairperson for Wessex Astronomical Society.
Find out more about Kate at her website.
This evening will be held at The Grosvenor Arms, High Street, Shaftesbury, SP7 8JA
See our Programme page for more information on The Grosvenor Arms.
Got a telescope but don't know where to start? Know what you want to do but need a little guidance? Getting excited for our first observation evening on 14 February but want to make sure your telescope is working ok?
This is what the workshop is for, bring your equipment along to have a chat or even just come along to listen.
The wealth of knowledge in our team is astronomical (I'm sorry but I had to say it), so come along and learn from them.
This will be held at
Lindlar Hall, Lindlar Close, Shaftesbury, SP7 8PS.
The close is just off Wincombe Lane before you get to Shaftesbury C of E Primary School.
Drive into the close, as it bears round to the left, opposite a turning to the right is the path to the hall. On road parking is available around the close - which is fairly quiet on a Saturday morning.
The workshop is free for members but a £5 donation from non-members would be appreciated.
